Once upon a time I won a Moth event.
I didn’t plan to tell a story; it came to me the night of the event after being asked to tell a story. Admittedly, I have had many years’ experiences with story and storytelling. But it is still an interesting and challenging question – what story to tell?
There was a theme that night, and if I remember correctly, it was something like – ‘when things didn’t go to plan’.
This invitation and theme were like a needle looking for a thread. Which thread would I hook into? There are a variety of threads in my life where things have not gone to plan.
Importantly, I had to allow time and attention to the sense of this needle looking for the right thread for that moment in time.
Timing and time are important.
I knew the needle had hooked the thread when I could see, hear and feel the specific time and place and character/s (me and others)
It was a story appropriate to share in that place – the theatre, it was personal and held some vulnerability (I am afraid it is too long to tell here but happy to share with anyone who reaches out 😁)
The next step is how I shaped and told the story once I found the thread and that’s another post!
